49ers running back LaMichael James has seen little to no action in San Francisco’s first four games and the former second round pick is seemingly unhappy about it. Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reported a controversial tweet that James wrote on his official Twitter account on Tuesday.
“Some things I just don’t understand at all,” James wrote, “I don’t work at State Farm, I’m not trying to be insurance.”
The tweet has since been deleted.
Through four games, James has been a little less than insurance. He’s only carried the ball three times for zero yards and has yet to pull in a reception. San Francisco is known for their run heavy style, but with Frank Gore getting the bulk of the playing time and Colin Kaepernick being second in carries, James doesn’t see many opportunities, as he’s behind Kendall Hunter as well.
There are a quite a few obstacles for the for the former All-American and Doak Walker Award winner to overcome. Gore expressed his displeasure with how he was being utilized in the San Francisco offense and was rewarded with 20 carries against St. Louis. One wouldn’t expect coach Jim Harbaugh to give the same gift to James, but perhaps his workload will increase. If not, maybe he’ll start selling actual insurance soon.
