Colts are like a box of chocolates

Reach into your stocking and pull out the first thing you see. Usually it would be candy or some small knickknack gift, but when you are a player for the Indianapolis Colts you get an XBOX One.

Owner Jim Irsay gave each player one on Friday, and two days later the Colts returned the favor by running roughshod over the Kansas City Chiefs.

This has been the same team that lost games against the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams, and beating the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and the Denver Broncos. Forrest Gump said it best “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get”. The same can be said about this year’s Colts team, from week to week they have gone from subzero cold to looking like the hottest team in the league.

Example A- The Colts have struggled all year to run the ball, and on Sunday Donald Brown rushed for 10 times for 79 yards (7.9 YPC), while his teammate Trent Richardson had 16 carries for 43 yards (2.7 YPC). That stat line can sum up this entire year for the Colts.

Example B- Griff Who? Griff Whalen led the team with 80 yards on Sunday, and looked to be completely in sync with Andrew Luck (both played together at Stanford). Whalen has spent his first two seasons in bouncing back between the roster and on the practice squad. If the Colts needed a picture to represent their season, it would have Griffs face plastered all over it.

Example C- Next man up has worked well during the Chuck Pagano and Ryan Grigson era. Jerell Freeman was named the AFC defensive player of the week after registering 2 interceptions, a sack, and a forced fumble against Kansas City Sunday. The former CFL player has come into his own in his second season with the team. Guys like him have been the reason why the Colts have been able to already forget about the 2-14 season back in 2011.

So dig deep into that box of chocolate Colts, and this Sunday pull out the sweetest piece to end the regular season, not one of those cherry filled ones that goes straight to my trash can. Enjoy it, savor it, and then get ready for the playoffs.
