The first 14 games of the year may not have gone well for Jets’ rookie Dee Milliner, but at least he ended the season with some momentum.
Fresh off his AFC Defensive Player of the Week award, Milliner was named AFC Defensive Rookie of the Month for Week 17 on Thursday. Milliner picked up his play in the final two weeks of the season and actually defended five passes in each of those last two games, one against the Cleveland Browns and one against the Miami Dolphins. According to Randy Lange or NewYorkJets.com, Milliner is the first player since 1994 (when Stats Inc. first began to track pass defenses) to defend five-or-more passes in back-to-back games.
Milliner finished the season with 56 total tackles (45 solo), 17 pass defenses, and three interceptions. All three of those picks game that two-game stretch to end the season.
