Lovie Smith adds former head coach to staff

According to ProFootballTalk, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Lovie Smith, have added Tony Sparano to the coaching staff in Tampa Bay.

Sparano served as the head coach in Miami from 2008-2011, amassing a 29-32 record with one playoff appearance. He then moved on to work as the offensive coordinator for the Jets in 2012. The Bill Parcells understudy spent this past season as the associate head coach in Oakland, choosing to leave when management refused to give him a deal more than one year in duration.

It is unclear what Sparano’s role will be with the Buccaneers, but speculation is that he will serve as the o-line coach. This is yet another good hire for Smith who looks to be assembling a very experienced staff.

Smith had previously hired former Cal-Berkley head coach Jeff Tedford to run his offense, along with recently fired Leslie Frazier to run the defense.
