The Dolphins are currently embarking on two major job searches.
Steve Ross and company are looking for a replacement for former GM Jeff Ireland, while Joe Philbin is working on finding a new offensive coordinator.
Regardless of who the Dolphins hire for either of their new job vacancies here are 5 guys the Dolphins should keep in aqua and orange.
1) CB Brent Grimes
Or should I say Pro Bowl CB Brent Grimes. Grimes who signed a one year in Miami debatably was the team’s MVP in 2013. Grimes was a shutdown corner for Miami and did not show any rust coming off a major Achilles injury.
Grimes had 60 tackles and 4 interceptions this year but was a head ache for opposing WR’s all year long. Grimes was undoubtedly a top 10 CB in the NFL this year.
“I like it here. I like the coaches, I like the players and it’s a good team,” Grimes said via ESPN.com. “Obviously, we didn’t finish how we wanted to and close out the season well. But I just let my agents handle everything. If [the Dolphins] want to keep me here, they’ll see how it goes.”
If a long term deal (3 years would be ideal) can’t be worked out it is possible the Fins slap the franchise tag on him.
2) DT Paul Soliai
Dolphins fans and most people who know him love Big Paul. This off season the Dolphins will be faced with the tough decision of most likely keeping either Paul or Randy Starks. While I don’t think Paul’s agent David Canter will give Miami a discount I do think Paul is willing to work with Miami on dollars more so than Randy.
Paul has been a staple on the Dolphins Dline and a beast most of his career although the team did struggle heavily against the run this season.
There is also no question Paul wants to be back in Miami next season.
3) S Chris Clemons
Clemons has been one of the more underrated Dolphins in the past couple of years. Clemons has struggled coming up with the big play (drops a bunch of INTs) however has played good consistent football for two straight years now and has been a reliable starter for Miami.
4) CB Nolan Carroll
Carroll who is one season removed from being a complete liability in the secondary really elevated his game this season. Carroll might have been the most improved players on the roster.
Should the Dolphins cut often injured Dmitri Patterson they will be left needing to bring back Carroll. The Dolphins aren’t at the point where they can trust 2013 draft picks Jamar Taylor and Will Davis.
5) WR Marlon Moore
Moore is cheap; a strong special teams players and provided nice depth at WR late in the season when the Fins WR core suffered injuries. That being said his roster spot will very much be on the bubble. Moore might have to compete with Bins who missed the 2013 season with an injury.
