The Baltimore Ravens have needs on offense. While their vaunted running game took a major dip in production this season, they did see some growth in the receiver department. With growth, however, comes the need for more. First-year Marlon Brown made major strides during the season and Torrey Smith is a legit top ten guy. Free agency, though, could claim both Jacoby Jones and Dennis Pitta, so the team is already looking to re-tool. General manager Ozzie Newsome spoke with the team’s website on this very same topic.
“We will try to acquire – I already know this and I won’t share it with you – I think we’ve identified the type of receiver that we want,” Newsome said.
Newsome continued that they are looking for a pass-catcher who “can make a third-and-7, third-and-8, catch and run some after the catch.”
Does the team bring back their free-agent tandem? Do they go the route of the draft again and hope they strike gold like they did with Smith and Brown?
“That player will be available between now [and the start of the season], whether it’s in free agency, whether he’s a cap casualty, whether it’s in the draft or whether it’s through trade,” Newsome said. “There is no reason that he might not be here at the beginning of the season.”
