Brian Schottenheimer to interview for Vanderbilt head coach opening

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will interview for Vanderbilt’s head coaching job today.

The Vanderbilt job opened up when their coach James Franklin moved on to Penn State. The Penn State job opened up when their former coach, Bill O’Brien took the Houston Texans head coaching job. So if Schottenheimer were to be hired by Vandy, he would be yet another domino to fall in the coaching carousel.

Of course, many Rams fans might view Schottenheimer’s departure as a blessing in disguise. Although he’s had his moments, Schottenheimer simply hasn’t maximized the value of some major talent investments the Rams have made lately, including tight end Jared Cook and wide receiver Tavon Austin.

Then again, it might be helpful to have some continuity for when Bradford comes back since he is coming off an ACL injury. Already feeling comfortable with the playbook would ideally help Bradford focus more on his rehabilitation when OTAs and training camp roll around.

For now, let’s see how this interview goes.

How will the Rams rookies do in the second year? We took a look ahead.
