Reports surfaced last night that both former Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak and journeyman coordinator/coach Mike Martz were both in Baltimore. Of course their intentions, or those of the Ravens, are unknown exactly but rest assured, the second Jim Caldwell took the job in Detroit, the Ravens brass were on the hunt for a new offensive coordinator.
There have been other names floating around and many opinions as to what Baltimore should do. Should they hire internally or bring in an outsider. Either way this decision will not be taken lightly and either way the important thing is that John Harbaugh is still in charge. Harbaugh has had an excellent track record since coming to Baltimore in 2008. Three coordinators have been promoted to other head coaching jobs while working for Harbaugh; Rex Ryan, Chuck Pagano, and now Jim Caldwell.
Some of the other names have been Rob Chudzinski, Norv Turner, and current wide receivers coach Jim Hostler. While each of those men has strong credentials, most notably Turner, it would be very exciting to see Kubiak or Martz get an opportunity. Kubiak is notorious for producing a stellar running game, something everybody in Baltimore wants, and Martz has been a part of some high-scoring offenses (namely ones where he isn’t the head coach).
For whichever man does get this job his work will be cut out for him and expectations will probably be unfairly high.
