Are Oakland Raiders desperate to trade Terrelle Pryor?

The Oakland Raiders continue to find themselves in the position of needing to identify a franchise quarterback. Last season, they had three different quarterbacks see time under center but none of them played well enough to be guaranteed the starting job in 2014. With Matt Flynn gone, the Raiders are down to two quarterbacks on the roster who could compete for the starting job (sorry Trent Edwards, you’re just a camp arm).

Both Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin saw significant time on the field in 2013 and many expected them to be in the conversation for the starting quarterback in 2014. But after Terrelle Pryor’s agent publicly bashed the Raiders before their final game of the season, his future with the team began to be questioned. This morning it was reported that Pryor fired his agent, but what is more interesting than that are the comments made Vic Tafur who covers the Raiders for the San Francisco Chronicle.

When Pryor’s agents made the comments he did, I had a feeling he would not be with the team next season, but only if there was a deal to be had. The Raiders are desperate for talent and depth so I figured they would try to trade him, but unless they saw a 5th rounder or better they would hang on to him. Tafur seems to completely disagree.

This offseason was set to be one of the more exciting in recent history for the Raiders and the possibility of a trade only makes it more intriguing.

I’ve been a proponent of Pryor and he has not played well for us. Due to his athletic ability I wanted him to succeed. I’ve taken a lot of grief over this. I will be pissed if he is successful elsewhere.

    Neither QB is worth keeping

    • Frank Youell

Not an intelligent statement. We need a backup QB. Likely McG. Just because they aren’t QBOF you don’t get rid of them.

  • Matty

I dont see any basis for this whatsoever

Pryor can be a good QB with the right coaches around him

The Raiders should keep pryor and McLovin. The Raiders have gone through QBs galore — at some point you have to start looking at the team. There have been many competitive teams who didn’t have so called ‘Franchise QBs.’ The raiders need to first stay with a coach, then develop the team around the QBs they have. In the words of Brian Billick, drafting a QB is a crap shoot, 50/50 chance at best. On another note, I took a look at Payton Manning’s numbers his first year starting in the NFL. His completion percentage is 56%, he threw more interceptions that TDs as well. I’m not saying that either of these guys are Manning, but you have to think if Manning came into the league without his name in this day and age, people would be saying he is not a franchise QB. My point is simply to build your team and stay with a QB. At this point, I think they should keep TP as the starter and keep McLovin as a capable backup.
