Considering the Buffalo Bills have not finished a season with a better record than 6-10 since 2007 there is bound to be more than a handful of disappointments on the team. This years biggest disappointment on the team in my eyes was not any one players performance but rather the teams decision to cut Tashard Choice.
Anyone that follows the team closely knows that Choice was a reliable back in a running game that has been plagued with injuries. When Choice was plugged into the lineup he consistently did what he was expected to do and much to the delight of Bills fans everywhere. Not only that but Choice was a motivational leader in the locker room and that is far more valuable than the 3rd string salary the Bills were paying him. It’s not often you find a player that can capture and lead the hearts of the players on your team in the locker room while you pay him next to nothing against the cap. The way I see it the Bills made a serious mistake with this decision and I really wish they could take it back.
Why did they cut him? Well that would be to sign a tight end that wouldn’t see a single down on the season. Screw the leadership qualities and screw the fact that both of our running backs have been banged up for majority of the season, lets get rid of our last option at running back who is an inspirational force in the locker room and replace him with somebody we aren’t even going to play.
Freddy Jackson put a little bit more perspective on the situation after the move happened when he said “He’s a guy that has been contributing not only on special teams, but he played a lot in the games, too. It was shocking, but he’s a tremendous player, so I think he’ll bounce somewhere and get right back on his feet.”. If that doesn’t explain what the Bills were thinking then nothing else will. Instead of trying to keep the real spirit and true inspiration of this team we are fooling around with selfish assholes like Jairus Byrd who only care about getting paid and have no real team leading qualities.
Get with the program Buffalo and start concentrating your efforts on the real heart and soul on your team because the decision to let Tashard Choice go while you entertain the selfish behavior of players like Byrd is just plain sad. It shows you are nowhere ready to contend for a super bowl as long as you are fully prepared to throw away the real spirit and passion on your team. The Bills may have thought they were simply getting rid of our 3rd string running back but what they really did what set our team back in ways it will take quite some time to recover from.
