It’s tough to say what player needs to see more time with the recent departure of defensive coordinator Mike Pettine this week, before this news came afoot I thought that Nickell Robey fit nicely into the defensive scheme and I was really looking forward to seeing how he progressed this year under him.
Not only did Robey earn a spot on the team as an un-drafted rookie with hard work and determination, he contributed in all sixteen games and had some impressive looks for a guy who is 5’7″ 165 lbs. If you look at his stats I think you would agree it should be interesting to see what happens through the off-season. I’m hoping he’s able to put on a few inches and become the little big time play-maker that I hope he can be. I’m also slightly impartial to Robey as I have visited his hometown of Frostproof FL several times, here is one of my personal pictures of Reedy lake that I took on one of my several trips through Frostproof.
My time in Robey’s hometown has really given me a better perspective of his roots, being able to actually see and know where he’s from allows you to really understand where this kid is coming from. It’s a great ride on the motorcycle and if you are ever in Central Florida and happen to be in the area then I highly recommend a stroll through.
Robey is just a small town kid with big dreams and I hope that not only his snap counts increase this season but also the caliber of his play as a result. Whoever becomes the next Bills defensive coordinator better find a place on the team for this guy because he is definitely one player that needs to see more time.
