49ers safety Donte Whitner expressed his desire to return to the 49ers next season. Whitner is scheduled to become a free agent in March. Whitner is an eight-year veteran of the NFL. In his three years with San Francisco, Whitner missed only one game and totaled 218 tackles, five interceptions, five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and 27 pass breakups. 49ers GM, Trent Balke, also expressed interest in having Whitner return, although nothing is certain with NFL salary caps and free agency.
49ers wide receiver, Quinton Patton, just finished his first season in the NFL. Patton made great strides in his game and emerged as the team’s number three wideout by the end of the playoffs. Patton was invited by 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, to workout during the offseason. Patton could see an increased role if Anquan Boldin decides to depart for free agency.
The offseason has begun for the 49ers. With the Super Bowl just within reach, the 49ers look to have a busy schedule in the coming months. Some important key dates include: March 8-11 when teams can begin negotiating with free agents; March 11 which is the start of free agency; May 8-10 the NFL draft; and September 4 which is the start of the 2014 season.
