(Me, a half hour ago, scrolling through Twitter): Just another slow day in the long Rams offseas—HOLY SHIT, Tim Walton got fired!

Why now? Why not a month ago when marquee names such as Ray Horton and Jim Schwartz were available? Jeff Fisher must have somebody in mind.
(Me, 15 minutes ago, scrolling through Twitter): Huh, I guess I’m not surprised Walton is gone, but who—HOLY SHIT, Gregg Williams??!
Gregg Williams, who was always Jeff Fisher’s preferred choice as DC, is expected to replace Tim Walton in St Louis. Sources

That’s right. Williams, who Fisher originally hired to be the defensive coordinator in 2012, was instead indefinitely suspended by the league for orchestrating the New Orleans Saints’ bounty scandal. You may have heard about it at some point.
Williams’ son Blake became defacto defensive coordinator that year, but Fisher fired him after the season, and Blake has not sniffed the NFL since. The elder Williams, meanwhile, served as defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans last season after his suspension was lifted prior to the 2013 season.
Somehow, the bridge between Fisher and Gregg Williams never torched completely, and it appears Gregg will be taking over the Rams defense. Unless, of course, he quits a couple days from now and eats a Big Mac on the way out.
