St. Louis Rams beat writer Jim Thomas buried an interesting bit of information in his online chat at STLtoday.com yesterday.
Thomas fielded a question from a user asking what the Rams offensive line might look like next year once Jake Long returns from his knee injury. Thomas’s response:
“I can’t really make a guess here other than Jake Long at LT when healthy. Don’t know if Dahl, Wells, C. Williams will be back. Will there be a drafted OT in the mix who could start ahead of Barksdale. And I’ll say this, I came away from the Senior Bowl more convinced that Saffold won’t be back. I don’t want to get into specifics other to say they’re already a couple of teams interested in him (not named the Rams). But there’s more to it than that.”
Thomas’s response is a tad cryptic, which suggests he doesn’t quite have enough information to confirm that Saffold is definitely on his way out. Still, it’s certainly newsworthy, and if Saffold indeed moves on from the Rams, the Rams very well might head into 2014’s season opener with five different starting offensive linemen than they had in the middle of 2013 before Long’s injury.
