On March 11, the NFL free agent chase begins as the Tennessee Titans, among other teams, attempt to woe big-name players with chunks of cash.
For the Tennessee Titans, who are one year out from spending over $100 million on unrestricted players, it’s yet to be seen what their plan is under new head coach Ken Whisenhunt.
Nate Davis of the USA Today explains that the Titans aren’t a great fit for most of the guys who will command big money.
Davis explains that Alterraun Verner, Tennessee’s standout defensive back, would fit in best with the Oakland Raiders.
After a Pro Bowl breakthrough in 2013, he’ll get paid handsomely somewhere.
Best fit: Raiders
The only player Davis mentions as fitting in with the Titans would be T.J. Ward, who is coming off a big year with the Cleveland Browns and would replace soon-to-be free agent Bernard Pollard.
He’s no ballhawk, but this Pro Bowler can set a physical tone with his ability to bring the wood.
Best fit: Titans
Will Tennessee drop expensive players such as Kamerion Wimbley, Michael Griffin and Chris Johnson in order to chase top-tier players? We’ll see when free agency kicks off next month.
