Tom Benson one of league's worst owners?

The Saints have become a perennial playoff threat and Super Bowl champion, but do years of ineptitude under owner Tom Benson make him one of the league’s worst?

According to cover32, yes.

Benson ranks in as the 24th best owner in the league, meaning he’s worse than 75 percent of NFL owners. I understand that years of poor choices can’t be completely forgotten, but how can a man that helped turned around the franchise and brought a Super Bowl to New Orleans be considered the ninth worst owner in the league?

In my mind, based on his track-record over the last decade Benson belongs in the top half of the league’s owners (maybe not very high in the top half, but there).

I totally disagree with the Cover 32 staff. Tom Benson has been a great owner. The franchise has made significant strides since hiring Jim Haslett and Sean Payton. If you examine his recent success compared to Zygi Wilf, Bob McNair, Woody Johnson, Arthur Blank, Alex Spanos and Stan Kroenke, in which they ranked higher than Benson, is an reckless evaluation for Cover 32. Tom Benson deserves to be in the upper half of the rankings. | |

As I said in the article Kyle, I agree. Although I wouldn’t say it’s a ‘reckless evaluation’, instead I say they hold past mistakes in too high a regard yet don’t take into account the recent resounding successes.
