The Houston Texans have a major hole at the tight end position. With starting tight end Garrett Graham likely leaving via free agency, the Texans are going to have to fine a new one. Graham was a solid tight end, finishing with 49 catches for 545 yards and five touchdowns, but the Texans seem keen on letting him go.
Today, Cover32 posted its list of the Top 10 free agent tight ends in this year’s pool.
Luckily for the Texans, the tight end free agent class looks very promising with the likes of Dennis Pitta, Jimmy Graham, Jermichael Finley, Dustin Keller and Scott Chandler.
Although Jimmy Graham will almost certainly be slapped with the franchise tag and re-signed by the New Orleans Saints, Pitta and Finley could definitely help out the Texans as they try to improve their offense.
Multiple reports are saying that Dennis Pitta and the Baltimore Ravens are far off in contract negotiations, and the cap-strapped Ravens will likely have to let him go.
Pitta appeared in just four games in 2013, but in 2012 he had 61 catches for 669 yards and seven touchdowns. and added 14 catches for 163 yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs when the Ravens won the Super Bowl.
If Pitta’s asking price is too much, Finley would be another excellent option as tight end for the Texans. Although he’s going to have to recover from a possible career-ending neck injury, he’s one of the fastest and most explosive tight ends in the league. In just five games in 2013, he had 25 catches for 300 yards and three touchdowns. His big-play ability could be a nice fit and take some of the pressure off of Andre Johnson.
Texans fans, do any of these tight ends fit what the Texans need? Or should they try drafting one?
