Top 5: Saints breakout performers in 2014

After a terrific 2013, there are many Saints’ players that are poised for a big 2014. Here are our top-5 breakout performers that could help New Orleans reclaim the NFC South crown.

FYI – Kenny Vaccaro isn’t allowed on this list because, in my mind, he has already broken out. Sue me.

5.) Mark Ingram

NFL: Divisional Round-New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks

Ingram is no longer a young buck, and it’s hard to believe that after winning the Heisman Trophy and being drafted in the first round that a guy can still be poised to ‘break out’.

But that’s exactly where we find him.

For the most part Ingram has played three forgettable seasons in New Orleans, but he showed a glimmer of hope towards the end of the 2013 season and in the postseason. The run started with a tough 83 yard performance against the Panthers in week 16, and continued into a 97 yard performance in the Saints’ playoff win in Philadelphia. Even in the loss to the Seahawks Ingram averaged nearly five yards per carry.

It looks like – for whatever reason – Ingram has finally begun to figure out the NFL. If that’s true, Ingram could prove to be an invaluable asset for year’s to come.
