Tennessee Titans running back round-up

There’s quite a bit of news coming out of Tennessee on the running back front.

Most importantly, is the news, or lack-thereof, on Tennessee’s $8 million man. According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean, Johnson’s agent met with Titans representatives with no movement toward resolution made Monday.

The Titans met with the agent for Chris Johnson here at the NFL Combine this weekend, but the veteran running back’s status remains unchanged.

Johnson eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the sixth time in his career on 279 carries, while his reserve, Shonn Greene rushed for just 3.8 yards per carry and a career-low 295 yards.

Both running backs took a collective step back in 2013, but it was Jackie Battle who stepped up when his number was called. He averaged 3.9 yards per carry, but never developed a rhythm due to quick changes in personnel.

Battle will get another opportunity to showcase his talents in 2014, according to Wyatt.

Battle has a big, 240-pound frame, but he’s quick and powerful. I’d love to see Battle used as a fullback ahead of Johnson in a two-back scheme. There remains heavy doubt Johnson makes it to the season-opener.
