Top 10 free agent offensive linemen: Chargers need depth

The past season couldn’t have been more encouraging for the San Diego Chargers offensive line. A unit that finished near the bottom of the league in 2012 bounced back to have a great year thanks to the additions of some new pieces. Right tackle, D.J. Fluker, will be a staple on the line for years to come while King Dunlap was perhaps the biggest surprise at left tackle. The line was brilliant in 2013, but had one problem: injuries. The starting offensive line was constantly in flux with the following a count of games started by each player…

King Dunlap – 11 LT

Chad Rinehart – 10 LG/LT/RG

Johnnie Troutman – 9 LG

Nick Hardwick – 16 C

Jeromey Clary – 15 RG/RT

D.J. Fluker – 15 RT/LT

Hardwick was the only player to start each game at the same position last year. Additionally, Jeromey Clary may become a cap casualty in 2014 as his release could save the team roughly 4 million dollars. The bottom line is, this team has to get more depth on the line with injury issues surrounding players like King Dunlap. The Chargers will look to solidify the unit protecting Philip Rivers through the draft and free agency. With that being said, click HERE to see a list of the top 10 free agent offensive linemen.
