As most of you all know, star running back Ray Rice has run into some trouble the last week or so involving his fiancée. Will this be a wake up call or will it soon be the end of a young but blooming career? The Rutgers product has been the focal point of the Ravens offensive attack for the last several years and the organization would like to continue for him to be that man still.
The Ravens organization has been well aware of the situation and continue to monitor it with great detail. Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome has made his comments to the press and will not take action until all the facts are stated and proved. Hopefully the evidence will not prove anything bad, considering that Rice is known around the league as being a “good guy” and is a heavy campaigner against bullying.
Although the public wont know what the actual decision is on Rices’ case until later from now, the Ravens will go about the offseason with Rice as the starter. With new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak coming in from Houston, the Ravens certainly hope they can use Rice as a part of their arsenal in the 2014 season. Despite having one of his worst seasons as a professional, Rice battled through tough times and pushed forward which is what he is known for.
Ultimately, the Ravens or the NFL cannot make any decisions on his punishment until the evidence is 100% sure, so until then both parties will go about their offseason routine just the same. Although this does put a big stain on Rices’ image and good guy persona, it will still come down to what the court case reveals. For now, expect things in Baltimore to run their normal course, and expect Rice to be the head chief in the backfield in 2014.
