The Bears re-signed Kelvin Hayden on Friday to a one-year deal worth $840,000. Hayden gives the Bears some much needed depth at corner and veteran leadership on defense.
Hayden was supposed to be the starting nickel corner last season but was out for the entire year after tearing his hamstring. Isaiah Frey stepped into the role for Hayden.
In relation with free agent signings, the Bears and all other teams got some new from the league offense on Friday. The 2014 salary cap will be $133 million.
This is nearly a $10 million per team increase from 2013.
The increase gives the Bears more flexibility to maneuver through their various roster holes. Henry Melton and Charles Tillman should be on the radar after the team brought back Roberto Garza this week.
The Carolina Panthers have decided to place the franchise tag on defensive end Greg Hardy. This takes a key free agent out of the Bears plans. They will likely turn their attention to Seattle Seahawks defensve end Michael Bennett.
