Bears hit a home run with Kyle Long

Last season the Bears surprised many when they drafted Kyle Long. By most accounts, Long was considered a second round player but the Bears decided to take him 20th overall.

All Long did was become the starting right guard and make it to the Pro Bowl in his first season. He was outstanding all season and figures to be one of the better guards in the league for seasons to come.

Guards are not a glamorous as tackles but are still vital to an offensive line’s success. Long might have a future at tackle but for now he provides a mean streak up front the Bears haven’t had since center Olin Kreutz.

What makes the Long selection so key is the lack of talent at the position in this year’s draft. There isn’t a player of his caliber available this year. The Bears made the right move in drafting Long know the talent was scarce in the next season.
