The Indianapolis Colts have chosen not to place a franchise tag on cornerback Vontae Davis. Davis was acquired two seasons ago from the Miami Dolphins for a second round draft pic. He has solidified the Colts starting corner role ever since.
The Colts have until 4 p.m. ET. today to get a deal done with Davis but reports have stated that they will not use the tag on him if a deal is not met. The tag would cost the Colts almost 12 million dollars, something they want to and will avoid.
Davis is considered to be one of the premier free agents in this year class, and will command a hefty salary increase. If the Colts cannot keep him, look for other free agent names such as Brent Grimes and Alterraun Verner to appear on the Colts radar.
Remember the Colts have over 30 million of cap space to work at, so if Davis does not stay another top corner should join the horseshoe soon.
