Jaguars’ secondary shows lots of promise moving forward

If you’re looking for some big splashes in free agency for the Jacksonville Jaguars, don’t look to find it in the secondary.

Looking at the top-10 free agent defensive backs in the NFL, there are some guys who fit the mold of what Caldwell and head coach Gus Bradley are looking for, but both men feel they already have the right pieces in place, rightly so.

Caldwell made some pretty good investments in the defensive backfield last offseason, drafting five rookies and starting three of them in cornerback Dwayne Gratz and safeties Johnathan Cyprien and Josh Evans. Caldwell also made some investments in the group by signing free agent cornerbacks Alan Ball and Will Blackmon.

While they endured their growing pains as any group of young guys do, this group of players in the secondary is a very, very young group that oozes with greatness and potential.

The Jaguars’ secondary could get an added ‘boost’ if the team decides to re-sign Blackmon. The seven-year veteran joined the team late in the preseason on a one-year contract, making a significant impact when it mattered most.

Don’t look for the Jaguars to break the bank when it comes to the secondary, they already have a promising group of guys in place who they feel can secure the back end of the defense allowing the big guys up front to rush the quarterback.
