Jairus Byrd ranks 3rd in list of top 10 free agent defensive backs

Jairus Byrd says he will keep Buffalo in mind as an option once he hits free agency this year, and it just might be a good idea that he is. The Bills made him a “substantial” offer and for some reason Byrd seems to think that teams are going to knock down his door in order to make him the highest paid safety in the NFL and I’m not so sure that is actually going to happen. In the list of cover32’s top 10 free agent defensive backs in the NFL Byrd ranks 3rd behind Vontae Davis and Alterraun Verner and the likelihood of him scoring the payday he is expecting is baffling to me.

Add to that Byrd’s shameful and brutally selfish hold-out after being tagged last year, what team will want to throw big dollars at a player who ultimately puts himself over his team? It’s going to be a pretty interesting free agency this year in regards to what team actually shells out the big dough for this guy, and stay tuned because I’m sure this wont be the last of the ‘Byrd flu’ in the NFL.
