Vontae Davis and Antonie Bethea hit the market

The Indianapolis Colts did not place a franchise tag on any player before Monday’s 4 PM deadline. In fact, only four players received that honor, enough to tie for the fewest in the last ten seasons.

So when free agency begins next week two Colts players will be testing the waters, cornerback Vontae Davis, and safety Antoine Bethea.

Bethea has been a cornerstone in the secondary for the Colts since he came into the league in 2006. He provides veteran leadership on the field and in the lockerroom and the players enjoy having him around. At 29, Bathea will be entering the later years of his prime and will not be in line for a major deal. The Colts need to keep him around, but if it is for anything more than 5 million a year do not expect 41 to be back.

Davis was acquired two seasons ago to solidify the number 1 starting corner spot for the Colts. At times he has struggled against elite receivers, but with what is available in the open market the Colts could do a hell of a lot worse. Davis has Pro Bowl potential and needs to in Indianapolis, but at what price? Both sides have expressed interest, but no deal has been worked out to this point.
