New York Giants should target Garrett Graham at tight end

It’s no secret that the New York Giants need help at the tight end position and that aid could come in the form of Garrett Graham if the G-Men are smart enough to make an offer.

Graham, who is eligible to become a free agent this offseason, isn’t guaranteed to hit the open market though, as’s Marc Sessler reports that the Houston Texans hope to retain the 27-year-old TE.

Graham had a productive season filling in for the injured Owen Daniels, compiling 49 receptions for 545 yards and five touchdowns. What makes Graham so valuable is the fact that he can line up in the usual tight end spot but can also play in the slot and as an H-back.

We all know how much the Giants like to use their tight ends in the offense, and Big Blue has an obvious need for a starting tight end after parting ways with 2013 free agent acquisition, Brandon Myers.

Aside from the fact that the Giants need help at the position, Graham is a good fit because he’s familiar with the New York-New Jersey market, as Graham grew up in Brick, N.J., my hometown.

If New York were to pursuit Graham, it’d have some competition. Ian Rapoport of reports that the Green Bay Packers are interested in Graham.

Green Bay is in the market for a tight end with Jermichael Finley hitting the free agent market. Finley suffered a season-ending neck injury last season, but at just 26, both his age and talent could still net him a solid deal in free agency.

Finley is also an option for the G-Men if they could get him at the right price, but I would rather see Graham come home to NJ. Either way, New York needs help at TE and Graham would be a perfect fit if Houston can’t work out a deal with him.
