Report: New York Jets interested in cornerback Alterraun Verner

The New York Jets had some serious struggles the he secondary last season. Now, it seems like they’re making finding a cornerback an offseason priority. From Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News:

Verner had five interceptions and two forced fumbles last season in Tennessee. He also defended a league-leading 23 passes. Pro Football Focus ranks him as the 12th-best cornerback from 2013.

Cromartie, meanwhile, is coming off the worst season of his career. And sentiment seems that if the Jets can’t rework his contract for next year, he may not find himself wearing green come the start of the 2014 season.
