Bears need Michael Bennett tomorrow

This is it. We have been previewing free agency for weeks now and it all comes down to tomorrow. Last season the Bears made a big splash when they signed Jermon Bushrod and Martellus Bennett on day one. This year they need to make the same splash.

There’s no doubt Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett is the perfect fit for this team. We have discussed it in depth and our own Brian Corcoran wrote about the Bears’ need to bring him in last week.

Signing Bennett would show fans and the team the direction general manager Phil Emery and ready to take this team. Right now the mood has to be somber considering the departure of Devin Hester, the uncertainty around Charles Tillman and the rumors of Josh McCown leaving.

A Bennett signing would reinvigorate the franchise. It would strike fear in the minds of Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers. Most importantly, it would be a vital piece in rebuilding this poor defense.

The Bears are close to being a playoff team. Unfortunately, they have been close for a few seasons now but can’t get over the hump. The offense has catapulted to one of the best in the league and it’s time the defense follows suit.

Bennett would be the first domino. You bring him in, sign a couple of safeties and possibly bring back Tillman and all of a sudden you have a respectable defense again.

Given Phil Emery’s past, there’s no question he’s going to make a big splash come day one. Bennett would love to play with his brother Martellus and would have a blast in a city like Chicago. Are the Bears going to get it done?

Stay tuned all week as we break down the opening days of free agency. We will have updates with each move surrounding the Bears. Let’s hope it starts off with a bang.
