Dolphins save a little more than 5 million by cutting Patterson

On the eve of free agency the Dolphins cut ties with cornerback Dimitri Patterson. He spent a little more than a season with the Dolphins and was scheduled to make $5 million in 2014.

When Patterson was on the field he was a solid number two cornerback, In six games he had four interceptions, but he only played six games. Injuries seemed to derail the 2013 season for Patterson, the main reason he was cut.

Miami will need to make a run at another corner in free agency. The Dolphins wouldn’t of cut Patterson unless they needed the cap, so it is possible that they are going for a big name, maybe Alterraun Verner.

One thing is for sure, I would not trust Jamar Taylor, Will Davis, or Jimmy Wilson starting across from Brent Grimes in 2014.

The Dolphins also signed veteran safety Louis Delmas, a solid player but has had his issues with injuries. Delmas spent the 2013 campaign on the Lions where he had a 2.0 PFF grade. The deal is for one year at $3.5 million.
