Earlier today, Cover32 released their landing page for the free agent recap. The page shows the top 10 players available at each position. The Houston Texans, with the first pick plus many more in the NFL draft, appear to be a team that will try to build up a playoff team through the draft instead of going on an offseason shopping spree. However, there are still some free agents available that could help the Texans.
The Texans need to find a consistent tight end, and Jermichael Finley, should he be ready to go after a severe neck injury, would be an excellent option. In just six games last season, he had 25 catches for 300 yards and three touchdowns. The year before, he played a full season and caught 61 passes for 667 yards and one touchdown.
There’s a good chance most teams won’t be willing to give him a big contract until he shows he’s fully recovered from his injury, but the Texans could sign him on a one-year “prove it” deal and see what happens. It’d be an excellent move to do so.
Another solid option would be a cornerback like Dominique-Rodgers Cromartie, who had an excellent season and was by far the Denver Broncos’ top corner throughout the season. If Houston could find a way to sign him to a short-term deal (1-2 years) and see if he could fit in their system, it would be perhaps the only free agent move necessary for the Texans.
Texans fans, which free agents would you like to see your team sign? Should they become spenders in the free agent pool, or should they just make their moves in the draft?
