New York Giants free agency recap: David Baas cut and rumors galore


Day one of free agency is drawing near but so much information has already begun to come out; here’s your afternoon update on the New York Giants:


– The Giants did not sign anyone today, but multiple reports have indicated that they have put an offer on the table to longtime defensive end and captain Justin Tuck.

– Linebacker Mark Herzlich also agreed to a new contract two days ago. Herzlich, 26, led the Giants with 14 special-teams tackles in 2013.

– As first reported by’s Jordan Raanan, the Giants have decided to cut center David Baas. The move will save the Giants $1.775 million in cap space and he will not be a post-June 1 cut.


– All indications are that star receiver Hakeem Nicks will not be back with the Giants in 2014 and neither side appears to be interested in the other.


– Jordan Raanan of is reporting that the Giants are interested in former Packers tight end Andrew Quarless. The 25-year-old Brooklyn native worked under new Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo in Green Bay and was an early target by the G-Men, per Raanan.
