New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman becomes free agent

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Julian Edelman and the New England Patriots have failed to make a deal. The undersized receiver will soon become an unrestricted free agent.

Following a 105-catch season that marked the budding fan favorites’ coming-out-party in New England, Edelman is stacked with more leverage than ever in a pass happy league that continually overvalues Brady-touched receivers.

Edelman re-signed with the Patriots last offseason, taking a one-year deal worth a shade over $1 million if he reached all incentives — which he did. Only the Patriots and New York Giants pursued him last year, in part because of his injury history.

Edelman, who turns 28 on May 22, noted that the big difference for him in 2013 was being able to stay on the field.
