Oakland Raiders fans ready to see their players leave

Today begins the 2014-2015 league year, which also happens to be the first day of free agency. At 4:00 p.m. EST, any and all free agents in the NFL are allowed to sign contracts with any team. And since this year, the league created a “legal tampering period” which allowed agents to talk contracts with other teams in advance of today, we should expect to see a lot of deals announced as soon as free agency starts.

Unfortunately for Oakland Raiders fans, at least a few of the first signings announced may very well be former Raiders signing with other teams. Last season, the Raiders saw key players like Desmond Bryant and Philip Wheeler leave early in free agency to sign bigger contracts than what they could get in Oakland.

This year, do not be surprised if three or more Raiders are off the board and on other teams within the first 24 hours of free agency. There are already rumors that left tackle Jared Veldheer will be signing with the Arizona Cardinals. While no specific destination has been pinned down for him, most expect Lamarr Houston to bolt from the Raiders, possibly to the Chicago Bears. Darren McFadden, who Adam Schefter described as the only running back receiving serious interest, could also be gone very quickly.

And those are just three names. There are a ton of other guys who could also depart rather quickly. Running back Rashad Jennings and defensive tackles Vance Walker and Pat Sims are all guys with a ton of talent who could get swiped off of the market rather quickly.

For the sake of the sanity of Raider Nation, this blogger sure hopes the Raiders also make a few signings of their own while watching many of their key players depart for other teams.
