Rodger Saffold fails physical, will not be sign with Raiders

Well, so much for the Oakland Raiders beefing up that offensive line with two quality players. The first off season signing for the Raiders is a signing that wasn’t. According to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Rodger Saffold failed his physical and will not be a Raider after all.

At least the Raiders find themselves flush with cap space again? And they won’t end up paying a guy who could have ended up getting injured. On the negative side of things, the Raiders likely would have at least tried to sign someone else had they known this yesterday. Needless to say, this is NOT the way the Raiders wanted their first signing to go.

Saffold will be signing a contract with the Rams… already. Appears the shoulder concerns the Raiders had did not concern the Rams.

Mike Silver is reporting that Mark Davis pulled the plug on the deal. This is BAD NEWS if true… Agents for other players may balk at working with McKenzie if they know all of their negotiations could go down the drain if Mark Davis decides to interfere. This was a very Al Davis move of Mark, and not in a good way.
