Captain Munnerlyn is no longer a Carolina Panther. On Thursday, the cornerback signed a three-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings, according to the Charlotte Observer. With such little cap space to work with, Munnerlyn became a luxury the Panthers just couldn’t afford. The 25-year old Munnerlyn graded out as the 11th best cornerback in the NFL last year, a breakout in his fourth professional season.
Munnerlyn is the sixth starter from Carolina’s 12-4 team to defect, joining Jordan Gross, Steve Smith, Mike Mitchell, Brandon LaFell, and slot receiver Ted Ginn Jr.. The Panthers also stand to lose their second best offensive lineman from last year in Travelle Wharton as he’s considering retirement. Quite a bit of turnover for last year’s NFC two seed.
