New Orleans Saints will likely avoid defensive tackle in draft

As we continue to analyze this year’s NFL draft, it looks like the New Orleans Saints will be avoiding the defensive tackle position…at least through the early rounds.

The interior of the Saints’ defensive line was a strength this past year, and with Cam Jordan continuing to move towards his role as a more traditional 3-4 defensive end there is little need to draft a playmaker at defensive tackle in the earlier rounds of the draft. Akiem Hicks also continued to improve, and the duo of John Jenkins and Tyrunn Walker gave them playmaking ability along with fresh legs. If there’s one spot on the Saints’ defense at which they could afford to just stand pat, defensive tackle is the spot.

That’s not to say that they should not add depth, however I would be surprised to see them land any of the guys on cover32’s list of the top 10 prospects at defensive tackle.
