According to multiple reports over the weekend, wide receiver DeSean Jackson and the Philadelphia Eagles have been on the outs. The pair have been together since 2008, but recently have been quibbling over the size of Jackson’s contract.
The team wants Jackson to restructure and cut down on some of the $10.5 million he is due to be paid in 2014 and also that he should take out the garbage without being asked first. For his part, Jackson appears ready to move on from the Eagles. On Saturday it was rumored that the receiver was garnering interest from a number of teams, including the 49ers, the Patriots, and the Seahawks.
However, the team put those stirrings to rest on Sunday when they released a statement, which read in part:
“Desean Jackson is a talented young man and brilliant wide receiver, and there are a lot of teams who would be lucky to have him. At this time however, the Seattle Seahawks are too busy focused on winning another Super bowl to devote time to a relationship with Mr. Jackson. We wish him the best in his search.”
Jackson was reached at his South Philly home, dejectedly listening to “She hates me” by Puddle of Mudd on repeat. He declined to comment.
