Knowshon Moreno should remain with Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos need emotion and passion.

Last season, the AFC Champions had that in running back Knowshon Moreno. No one will ever forget him crying after the National Anthem in Kansas City or in that same game when he crawled and signaled first down.

Moreno is sitting on the free agent market and has only had a visit to the Miami Dolphins. He left Miami without a contract and remains without a team.

It is shocking what a fan favorite Moreno has become after the beginning of his career in Denver. He was labeled a first-round bust or injury prone or just an off-the-field troublemaker due to a DUI.

Oh how things have changed.

Broncos General Manager John Elway has mentioned bringing Moreno back and so has head coach John Fox, who said it on ESPN’s “NFL Insiders” on Monday. Both have explained it all depends on the price Moreno is asking for.

Moreno enjoyed a career year in 2013. He was the best back on the roster after beating out Elway draft picks Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman. Ball seems to still be part of the future but Hillman is very up in the air with the team.

Both Hillman and Ball had fumbling problems while Moreno never dropped the ball. He did fumble in the Super Bowl but it was recovered and we all know it didn’t really matter.

Can Ball take over the reigns as the starting running back? It remains to be seen. He had a strong rookie campaign at the end of the year but looked lost early.

Moreno would provide stability at the position. Quarterback Peyton Manning trusts him in pass protection and to catch balls out of the backfield.

The interest has been slim to none from other teams on Moreno. Teams seem to not trust his performance last season. It was a great season on a contract year. In the past, Moreno had shown flashes but was never healthy. Last season, he was healthy and performed.

Bring him back on just a one-year deal. Make Moreno show he can do it again. His role will be reduced because the Broncos want to see what they have in Ball but he will still be an important cog.

If the Broncos and Moreno are serious about winning a title with Manning, both need to figure this out. An unproven running back could be a disaster for the Broncos.

Elway has said all along he was going to let the free agents test the waters. He let Eric Decker go. He made an offer to Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie but the corner said no and Elway went and got Aqib Talib. The Broncos never really talked about Zane Beadles so the guard got big money from the Jaguars. Wesley Woodyard is also gone after signing with the Titans.
But Moreno just sits out there still.

The Broncos need him and Moreno may need Denver in the long run. The deal won’t be rich but it’s a deal Elway should make.
