John Fox talks (lack of) contract extension in awkward exchange with media

The day after the AFC Championship game Denver Broncos head coach John Fox was reportedly “all but assured” a contract extension once the season ended.

Well, 64 days later, a deal still isn’t done.

I’ve thrown out some theories for why that is, and today Fox talked about his (lack of) extension with the media at the NFL owner’s meetings.

The exchange was a little awkward, to say the least.

The NFL makes embedding video darn near impossible, so go ahead and watch it right here. The contract talk starts at the 1:20 mark.

The silence, forced laughter, excessive hand gestures, etc. all make it seem like Fox isn’t so sure something’s going to get done. Which, is a bit odd, considering it was reported there was seemingly no chance he’d be a “lame duck” going into 2014.

Yesterday John Elway spoke with ESPN, saying he still felt something would get done, but then again he said something very similar at the combine a month ago — and there’s still no deal.

Sure, it’s likely just money separating the two sides, but Foxy watch continues way longer than anyone expected.
