Ray Rice indicted for third-degree aggravated assault

Ray Rice, who ran into trouble with the law earlier this offseason after he reportedly knocked his fiancé unconscious, was indicted today on third-degree aggravated assault charges.

TMZ posted video of Rice dragging a seemingly motionless woman out of an elevator shaft.  In the video, Rice stops his action and begins to talk to who we can only assume is a security guard of some sort.

Rice and his lawyers have adamantly claimed that the video of the event is only part of the story, and that once the investigation concludes, the star running back will be absolved.  However, third-degree aggravated assault is a felony that, if convicted, can carry a sentence of 3-5 years.

Clearly, this case will undergo its due process before there is a decision, however, Ray Rice has ways to go before he is in the clear.  For what it’s worth, the Ravens organization has remained supportive of their former All-Pro running back throughout the process.
