Oakland Raiders keep plugging holes, sign CB Carlos Rogers

The Oakland Raiders are said to be one of the main contenders in the DeSean Jackson sweepstakes. But while Jackson was in Washington DC meeting with the coaches and general manager there, the Raiders had their own guest.

The Raiders signed cornerback Tarell Brown earlier in free agency, poaching the former San Francisco 49er. Now, general manager Reggie McKenzie has continued to harvest Niners free agents adding another member of their secondary today, Carlos Rogers.

Cornerback along with the defensive line depth are the two biggest areas of need for the Raiders right now and Rogers gives them another veteran. But even with the addition of Rogers, the Raiders need to add more corners. As the roster stands now, the Raiders would have Tarell Brown and DJ Hayden starting with Rogers as the nickel (he and Hayden could switch spots depending on Hayden’s development). In the AFC West with Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers, that is simply not enough. I would not be surprised if the Raiders target another corner in this year’s draft.
