Bears safety Chris Conte underwent surgery late last month to fix discomfort in his shoulder. He is expected to miss four to five months the team announced on Thursday.
Conte injured the shoulder during the 2013 season. Despite the injury, he still went on to start all 16 games. He finished with 95 interceptions and three interceptions.
The recovery time will force Conte to miss the team’s entire offseason program but be back in time for training camp. This could come into play as he is expected to compete for a starting job.
The team has signed three outside safeties and brought back Craig Steltz. They could also look to draft a safety in May’s draft.
