Do any of these remaining free agents fit in with the Detroit Lions?

The last days of free agency before the 2014 NFL draft are upon us, and the Detroit Lions still have multiple holes to fill. There are definite needs at defensive end, linebacker, cornerback and kicker. Depth throughout the team is still an issue in general, but there aren’t many starting slots currently available unless a major upgrade is made. At this point, that isn’t likely, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t valuable pieces left in free agency.

The staff at has compiled a list of the best free agents remaining at each position. The most intriguing to the Lions here should be Asante Samuel. Yes, Samuel is 33 years old, but the Lions have a young unproven core that needs to develop and so if nothing else the Lions need some sort of stability at cornerback. Samuel has probably seen the best of his playing days, but his second best would be better than most teams could hope for; he was just a few years ago one of the best in the league at the position. Samuel would likely be an upgrade from last year’s veteran signee Rashean Mathis, not that Mathis was a disappointment, but the down slope of Samuel’s career should have more upside than Mathis at this point.

Of course, the Lions don’t really have much room to work with until they reach an extension with defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to lower his salary cap number.

Take a look here at what the staff here has compiled and see if you think any of these players would fit in with the Lions.
