Cowboys five round Mock 2.0

he NFL off season is never short on opinions. Mock drafts, player analysis and projections, you name it someone is probably talking about it.

A few weeks back I gave you my first mock draft installment by giving you a five round mock draft of the cowboys draft selections using a draft simulator powered by the folks over at Leaving out the last two rounds once again this week I keep the simulator in sleep mode and instead I give you a list of the players who I think will hear their names called in the first five rounds when the Cowboys are on the clock.

It’s time to mock the draft.

Round 1, Pick 16
Selection: Anthony Barr, OLB/DE UCLA
A new week and a new mock draft can only mean one thing right? Of course, the same selection! The more I think about it, the more I start to believe that Barr is THE player the Cowboys should be targeting in the first round, even ahead of Pitt defensive tackle Aaron Donald . Bryan Broaddus of recently compared Barr to former All-Pro Jason Taylor and it’s that kind of athleticism that Dallas needs coming of the edge on defense.

Round 2, Pick 47
Selection: Dominque Easley, DT University of Florida
Analysis: Yet another pick that remains the same. The Cowboys need all the help they can get along the defensive line and if they were able to snag Easley it would net them another player worthy of a first round selection were there not so many questions surrounding his knees. Easley would be the second selection in as many picks that was meant to shore up the defense and can play both tackle spots along the line, adding to his value.

Round 3, Pick 78
Selection: Christian Jones, ILB Florida State University
Analysis: Jones would provide Dallas’ line backing core with both incredible athleticism and size, but also that all important trait of versatility. Each of his three seasons as a starter saw Jones playing a different line backing position.

Round 4, Pick 119
Selection: Billy Turner, OT North Dakota State University
The Bison are no longer a team to sleep on in college football. Though they play at the FCS level, the Bison have won that championship three years in a row. Turner is a tall athletic tackle that does a lot of the things expected of a lineman in this scheme very well. I highly anticipate that the Cowboys will address the offensive line in the first four picks of the draft, and with Turner now in the fold I have done just that.

Rounds 5, Pick 158
Selection Will Clark, DE West Virginia University
Analysis: Clark may or may not make it all the way to the 5th round but if he were this would be the perfect time for the Cowboys to strike. Possess a prototypical defensive ends body and is extremely strong. Has great work ethic and would immediately become Rod Marinelli’s new “petcat”

As we get closer to the draft, look for me to provide you with a list of intriguing 7th round prospects to help better prepare you come draft day.
