Well, this certainly comes as a surprise. A short while ago Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson released a statement announcing that he was divorcing his wife of two years, Ashton.
Wilson’s press release included the following statement:
“I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. Clearly, decisions like these don’t come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this personal matter.”

The couple married in January of 2012 shortly after Wilson’s college football career ended at the University of Wisconsin. They frequently made visits together to a children’s hospital in the Seattle area to cheer up sick kids.
Of course I don’t know anything about Wilson’s life so I don’t want to speculate as to the reasoning. I say it comes as a surprise because Wilson so often makes public displays of his Christian faith, which explicitly does not condone divorce.
We will bring you more news as it develops, but I don’t want to make a big thing out of it like I’m sure alot of people will. It’s a personal matter for Wilson’s family, and we’re here to talk about football. On that note, the NFL’s 2014 schedule has been released. The Seahawks will host the Green Bay Packers in the season opener and visit the 49ers on Thanksgiving.
