Five things you need to know about Ryan Shazier

The Pittsburgh Steelers made their first-round selection on Thursday night, taking Ryan Shazier out of The Ohio State University. In the coming month, there will be plenty of coverage of the newest member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. But in the meantime, here are five things to know about the linebacker:

1. He’s fast… really fast. Shazier ran an unofficial 4.36 40-yard dash while weighing in at 237 pounds.

2. Shazier was a First Team All-American in 2013, as well as First Team Big-Ten (2013).

3. His junior year, his last at Ohio State, Shazier recorded 144 tackles and seven sacks in 14 games.

4. The last time the Steelers picked at 15 they went linebacker as well, selected Lawrence Timmons out of Florida State in 2007.

5. Shazier recorded a staggering 22.5 tackles for loss in 2013.

I’m sad for Vince Williams because I loved the draft pick and personally I didn’t think he did that bad as a rookie, but I’m excited to see what Shazier can do and how he can improve the defense.
