A case for who should be the Atlanta Falcons next selection

The Atlanta Falcons rounded out their offensive line last night with the selection of Jake Matthews.

Tonight, the Falcons hold the 37th and 68th draft picks. It will be another stress filled evening for the Falcons’ fans, as there are many different directions Atlanta could turn to. I expect Atlanta to address OLB in the second round tonight, and then depending on how the draft unfolds, possibly a tight end or safety in the third. The wildcard tonight is wide receiver, yes, wide receiver.

I believe that the best available pass rusher is Demarcus Lawrence of Boise State, and he should be their target at the beginning of round two. The Falcons have a high grade on Lawrence. He took a personal visit to Flowery Branch a few weeks ago, and many believe he was a first round talent. Some may remember hearing Lawrence’s name first surface within cover32 Atlanta when I picked him in round two of my Falcons Mock Scenario I.
Lawrence, is 6’3” 250lbs, he is a bit of a “tweener” in his ability to play in multiple positions in Mike Nolan’s defense. He is an explosive athlete, who consistently disrupts opposing quarterbacks. Lawrence accumulated 20 sacks over his last two seasons at Boise State. He had some minor off-the-field issues, but nothing alarming enough to cause the Falcons’ front office to look away. There are other names out there that could be fits here (Attaochu, Ealy, Van Noy), I just believe that Lawrence is the best available at his position.
