The Falcons addressed the safety position in round three of the NFL Draft by selecting Dez Southward from Wisconsin. Here are some quick facts about the newest member of the Atlanta Falcons.
-The former Badger blew his pro day when he posted a 4.38 in the forty-yard dash. He may have been a slight reach here, but Atlanta needed a potential playmaker at safety. He has the ability to cover the back-end very well.
-Southward is a solid in-the-box defender, his highlight tape shows play after play his physical presence. He is versatile. Which is most likely why the Falcons picked him, he played all over the field for the Badgers, including corner and linebacker.
-Great ball skills and closing speed. Has to work on his route recognition. He is still new to football, he will only get better, but he is raw.
-Rarely see him miss a tackle. Which is good, since the last safety we had missed them all the time…
